Creepy might be the first word that comes to mind. As a child who was home-schooled, there are areas in which Dulcinea can be naïve and others where she is just plain weird. The young woman has barely any inkling of personal space and does not always pick up on social cues. As expressed through her way of dress, the former Goddess appreciates shock value and enjoys being the center of attention, an attitude fitting for an ‘only’ child. If Nea were a bird, it would be a peacock. A vain, proud young woman, she flaunts her wealth through her designer clothing, and her skills by slipping in bits of Italian or graciously entertaining a crowd through dance or cello.

Materialistic may be the second adjective conjured for the lady, and there is no denying that Dulcinea is highly materialistic, greatly in part to her upbringing. As such, she has also learned the art of extreme flirtation, her mother instilling the view that men are providers; the wealthier, the better. This, at times, leaves her in a bitter state when single, her aim being only to please in order to further her gain and secure a future. Her bisexuality lies in broadening her clientele, seeking equality amongst those she would entertain (but showing a preference in the male gender). Her adoptive family conditioned Nea through years to comply and do as one is told, however, upon learning her status as a Goddess, said behavior is likely to change, albeit slowly.

Dulcinea must always be preoccupying her time, whether it’s dancing, conjuring her Shadows, diving into the latest assignment, and so on. Silence, you see, is not something she is all too familiar with, her ears constantly abuzz with echoes of the dead. If she’s not too careful, it can become overbearing.

Gets short temper from Hades and beauty from Persephone.

HISTORY
ANCIENT HISTORY - Still working out the kinks here ; Use Wikipedia & Theoi

Father or mother deity of death or Hereafter. More often visible during nightfall. Reference Hades and Persephone, flower knowledge, Cerberus and Chiron and others.

"In Greek mythology, Melinoë is the goddess of ghosts. She is the daughter of Persephone and Hades. She lives in the Underworld. She has a pale complexion and a short temper and takes after her father in almost every way, except from her beauty that she gets from her mother Persephone. Melinoë has the powers to turn any mortal insane by her phantoms.

Little is known about Melinoë, but ancient Greeks used to conduct rituals and acts of praises to her as a sign of devotion and to garner protection from ghosts. (wiki)"

PRE-MYTHIAN ACADEMY - Dulcinea Vogizrak Jīngshén Diāo was born in Trieste, Italy and adopted by Arabella née Nacari and Ri Diāo. A Chinese-American, Ri happened to meet his future wife on a business trip to the Boot, slipping into the lingerie store she worked at and immediately becoming smitten. He courted her earnestly and his eagerness paid off, winning her over swiftly. Bringing his new wife back to the States, he discovered Arabella had a knack for designing the very clothing she once worked with. Seeing an opportunity, they opened a boutique, and the company, aptly named “Hips ‘n Hearts”, flourished. Over the course of seven years, their wares spread across the sea, as well as cross-continent, eventually landing a strong foothold in Europe. It provided Arabella the excuse to secure a home in her native country, which was cemented by the adoption of a child. Though Ri had always wanted a son, an heir, he compromised with the promise of experimenting for a natural birth. Despite the fact that their little bundle was a reincarnated Goddess, Dulcinea’s abilities were not immediately made known.

The experiments failed, leaving Arabella weak and ill, Ri frustrated and heartbroken. Unwilling to bring any other children into their home after such a trying endeavor, Dulcinea became the sole heir to the Diāo fortune. Nea’s parents doted on her often, providing a life of privilege, as they bounced between homes in Sagaponack (a village in Southampton), New York and Venice, Italy. Her father hired private tutors, deeming only the best for his darling girl. Studies were coupled with music lessons (focus in cello), insisting that she be nothing less than skilled. Such things would only add appeal and acquisitiveness, making it that much easier to land a wealthy husband who could expand the Diāo fortune. Arabella, in turn, strictly spoke in Italian to her daughter, ensuring she’d remember the sultry language. A language tutor drove the fluency home and added Mandarin to the already daunting load.

When Nea was thirteen, her favorite cousin, Olivia, passed away unexpectedly, a week short of their annual trip to Fashion Week in Paris. The tradition had been set by Arabella, after “Hips ‘N Hearts” earned enough recognition to land a slot in the presentation. The discovery of one of Dulcinea’s abilities occurred at the funeral when, without realizing it, Dulcinea Summoned her cousin. Having crept away to give into her grief, she’d been so focused on thoughts of the past that it was enough to bring a vapory manifestation of the deceased friend and family member. So engrossed in tears, Nea was at first unaware that the cousin was hovering before her. But as the dark-haired girl collected her composure, she was shocked to see Olivia looking down at her. It took the ghost speaking to break the spell, and the exhaustion caused by triggering the ability (as well as the sort that comes from sobbing) began to ebb away at the young woman; it sparked the realization that this was a thing of her own doing. Nea wasn’t able to keep her cousin ‘present’ for long, but it was enough. And it felt...right. Familiar.

Uncertain if the thing with which she could do was a gift or a curse, Dulcinea meant to keep everything a secret, but a scattering of Melinoë’s memories came in the form of nightmares, thus forcing a revelation; Dulcinea shared the horrific images of the dead, the curious sights of flora (a hint toward Persephone, no doubt) that had been disrupting her slumber. She quietly confessed to seeing the specter of Olivia, how certain Nea was that she had somehow called upon the cousin. Understandably, Ri and Arabella became rather concerned when the nightmares repeated throughout the week, and when their formerly cherished daughter Summoned another ethereal being, a debate over tests and institutionalization was the cause of much strife between the Diāos.

Instead, someone or something brought about the knowledge of a particular academy, and within a month, the reincarnated Goddess was enrolled.

MYTHIAN ACADEMY

{ JULY 2017 Greeted by Ian Burke (pookah). Divinity revealed by Professor Seth Khalid (Set). Taken under Zennyo Ryūō's wing (pun not intended) and became his teaching assistant in August. From the moment she laid eyes on the dragon God, Dulce was smitten.

ABILITIES
necromancy>As the Goddess of ghosts, she has divine authority and absolute control over the dead, though to a lesser extent than Hades. In times of distress or battle, Nea can reap the necroplasmic echoes imprinted upon the earth by those that have passed on and manifest them as ghost-like entities to do her bidding. These “Shadows”, as she’s apt to call them, are transparent in nature and float about like traditional ghosts. They can still speak and may retain certain memories of their past lives. At times, she might beckon them as friends to converse with when bored.

In addition to summoning her Shadows, Melinoë can also will them to become tangible if she applies herself, allowing them to interact with solid objects. Although she can summon five of these Shadows at a time, she’s only been able to grant corporeality to three of them at maximum. When engaged in physical conflict, Nea may use the other two as decoys. The Goddess can also control their appearance to a certain degree, able to call them forth as eerily beautiful specters or horrifically decayed wraiths. Her Shadows cannot be destroyed by any form of physical force even if they’re currently tangible and any attempts to do so will simply pass through them. It’s a matter of “I can touch you, but you can’t touch me” circumstances. However, certain forms of energy and psychic assault may damage the apparitions, and enough of it will cause them to disperse.

empathetic linkDulcinea shares some type of empathic link with her Shadows, feeling their pain if they were to be injured. Emotions are only felt when they're more intense. Fortunately, she can incorporate others into the empathic link she shares with her creations in order to ease her pain and distribute (or inflict) that same sensory experience to others she may be linked to. The maximum amount of time she can maintain her Shadows varies between one to three hours. Granting them tangibility cuts that time in half, due to the mental exertion. Her Shadows are most powerful when there is a large amount of necro-psychic energy available for her to utilize in their creation. For example, locales where death occurs at a high rate such as in or around a hospital or heavily populated cities are ideal for her ability as they are abundant in necroplasmic residue. It should be noted that Melinoë can only recall that which has been left behind for up to seven years. Anything beyond that becomes null and void, and beyond Dulcinea’s capabilities as the deceased individual’s psychic fingerprint fades with time.

emotional shape-shiftingDulcinea can take on the appearance of dead people in one's life, using guilt and anger from the deceased to force an alliance or advantage. This being a more advanced ability, the current time allowance stands at twenty-five minutes.

madness manipulationAdditionally the Goddess of Nightmares, she is capable of causing night terrors to mortals by manifesting in strange forms, which can ultimately lead to mental disorder. However, if the target is able to placate her by showing that they understand and respect her nature, Nea will avert said damage, leaving only horrible visions behind.

weaknesses Dulcinea’s main weakness is the mortal body's own vulnerability in contrast to the staggering endurance of her Shadows. She’s a target for any enemy recognizing her as the true threat and if she were to be taken down then her Shadows would dissipate immediately afterwards. While her apparitions may be physically invulnerable, they are susceptible to being damaged by other means, either by psionic or energy assaults. Due to her empathic link with them, Nea would feel her Shadows’ figurative pain as agonizing psychic feedback. If a specter were to be dispersed after taking enough damage, she does have the ability to reform them, though it would be a draining effort.
